Roulette is a popular casino game that is easy to learn and fun to play. Follow these steps to get started with online roulette:

French Roulette vs. European Roulette

French roulette, while similar to European roulette, features a slightly different table layout, uses French language terms for some betting options, and often includes the "La Partage" rule, which reduces the house edge.

Similarities:

European (UK) Layout

French-table
  • Wheel: Both French and European roulette use a wheel with 37 numbers (0-36).
  • Betting Options: The core betting options are the same, including bets on individual numbers, groups of numbers, red/black, odd/even, and low/high.
  • Payouts: Payouts for winning bets are generally the same for both variants.

Differences:

French Layout

French-table
  • Table Layout: French roulette tables often have a different layout than European tables, with alternative positions for certain betting options.
  • French Language: French roulette tables often use French terms for betting options, such as "pair" (even), "impair" (odd), and "tiers" (a group of numbers).
  • La Partage Rule: French roulette often includes the "La Partage" rule, where if the ball lands on zero, players who bet on even-money bets (red/black, odd/even, 1-18/19-36) have their stake split in half, reducing the house edge.
It has a payout percentage of 98.65%, which means the house edge is 1.35%, but this is only the case when the player is betting on a two-sided outside bet.
  • Racetrack or Announce Bets: Some French roulette tables have an additional representation of the roulette wheel, nicknamed the "racetrack," which makes "announce bets" (bets on specific groups of numbers) easier.
  • Table Design: Some French roulette tables have the wheel in the center and the layout on either side, while European tables often have the wheel at one end and the layout on the other.

PLEASE NOTE

As a British player I avoid playing on an American table.
The house odds for European Roulette are better for the player, compared to American Roulette.
The house edge is a lot lower at 2.7%, and the odds of winning by betting on specific numbers is 1 in 37.
Stick with European or French.

Now that you know the basics, start playing and enjoy the thrill of roulette!
